Windows Vista - Check your Settings

This page lists the Vista Dial-up Connection settings normally required to connect to US Netizen. Because US Netizen uses standard settings, the Create new Connection wizard should use all the correct settings. If you are having problems, look over this list to ensure that everything is correct.

  1. Click on the Start button, then click on Connect To.

  2. Click on Open Network and Sharing Center.

  3. If you are not connected to the Internet, a red X will be shown between This Computer and Internet. Click on Manage Network Connections.

  4. If you are connected to the Internet, the active connection will be shown between This Computer and Internet. Click on Manage Network Connections.

  5. Right-Click on your dial-up Connection and click on Properties.

  6. On the General tab, your settings should be similar to those below.
  7. Click on the Options tab. These settings should be similar to those below.
  8. Click on the Security tab. These settings should be similar to those below.
  9. Click on the Networking tab. These settings should be similar to those below.It doesn't matter if the Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) is checked or not. It will be ignored and TCP/IPv4 will be used when you connect.
  10. Click on Internet Protocol Version 4(TCP/IPv4) to highlight it, then click on Properties. Both settings should be set to automatic. Click on Advanced.

  11. The Advanced TCP/IP settings should be as below. Click on DNS.

  12. Your DNS settings should be as below. Click on WINS.

  13. Your WINS Settings should be as below. Click on OK if you made a change, or Cancel if you didn't.

  14. Click on the tab. Your setting should be similar to those below. If you want to set up Internet Connection Sharing, Click on Using ICS for help. Click on OK if you made a change, or Cancel if you didn't.

  15. These are all the settings that are configurable. If your settings match these and you can't connect, you may have other problems.
