How to speed up Webmail

The standard webmail that is accessed from http://mail.google.com/a/usnetizen.com/ contains a generous amount of code that needs to be downloaded and run. This code adds great features like autocomplete when your type in the To: box. Unfortunately, this slows everything down, especially on an old computer.

Fortunately, some of the slow non-critical features can be disabled resulting in much a faster webmail experience. It is very easy to disable and re-enable, so we recommend that you try it and see if it suits you.

Use the Basic Interface

Log into webmail: http://mail.google.com/a/usnetizen.com/

log into webmail

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on Basic HTML.

Congratulations. You have improved the speed of webmail and eliminated the advertisements.

Undo the Change

The basic HTML mode removes some features that you may actually like. If you want to switch back to the regular webmail mode, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on Standard.

switch to javascript mode

The page will reload with the standard feature-rich albeit slow webmail restored.
