E-mail Antivirus Settings

If you use US Netizen webmail, there are no special settings for your antivirus software. We have server-based antivirus software that functions independent of your desktop software.

If you use Outlook Express or another desktop e-mail client, your antivirus software may interfere with receiving your mail. We have confirmed that Norton Antivirus is a problem. If you find another antivirus program that is a problem, let us know.

Norton AntivirusNorton AntiVirus email scanning does not work with mail systems using the SSL protocol. Also, Norton AntiVirus email scanning will only scan email that arrives on default ports 110 or 25.

Since US Netizen uses the SSL protocol, you must disable email scanning in order to send and receive e-mail.

Solution:
Open Norton Antivirus
Click the Options tab
Click email
Disable Scan outgoing email

Read the document Turning on or turning off email scanning in Norton AntiVirus for more detailed information on how to disable email scanning.

Note: Even though email scanning is disabled, your computer is still protected from viruses. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect will scan email attachments when you save the attachment to the hard drive. After you disable email scanner, be sure that Auto-Protect is enabled, and then run LiveUpdate regularly to insure that Auto-Protect has been optimally configured. Auto-Protect provides real-time virus protection from any source, including the Internet, and will automatically scan email attachments whenever they are accessed.
